the tapes does a great job on my 04 e60. I am telling you. I was so mad at this bmw with that mickey mouse noise that I was against driving with my clients on my car. I was feeling so embarased! but, once the dealer put the plastic tape on my door, that was it. it was almost 5 months already. no noise. happy beemer owner in miami. but, i was about to trade my bmw for an american car.
i hope this helps!

It's teflon tape, done the repair more times then I'd have liked to.

I don't believe BMW is at fault for some people cleaning with certain materials that cause a noise on the flocking.

I'm not sure if it's a squeak or rattle on mine?

If the drivers window is fully up, it makes a noise. If I move the window down (1 mil or less) it stops.

It's at the dealer now, so I'll see what they come up with.

I'll tell you now, that tape won't work. Been there, done that. Give a max. a month.
Yours obviously wasn't applied properly then as the same fix on mine has proved totally effective for many months.

Good tips, thanks! Do you know of anything I should look for in a car wash soap that is also free of wax-like elements that could attribute to this problem?
Sorry, I'm not into US brands (they do tend to vary depending on global/local markets).
But look out for wax-, teflon-, easy to clean- and shiny words on the labels.

I'm sure some US forum members can help you with this.

The seal squeak problem has been with the BMW for ages.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go look around the auto parts store this weekend and check-out the selection.

Now that you mention it, the loaner X3 I was driving (2006) was creaking as well... it just seems that another solution that would be void of this issue would be implemented after all these complaints.

I'm willing to wash/maintain my vehicles to keep them optimal, so if I find a solution and even if it involves more work when cleaning, I'm all for it.

now its booked to go in monday morning...

thanks guys! now i need to find out about the centre screen that cant play any dvd's etc...lets hope there is a subject on that in this forum....one would think because it is colour it would be a matter of changing the cd player to DVD and then just hit play with one or two extra plug ins......

Then, instead of buying the recommended 3M adhesive remover I used plain "Goof Off" to thoroughly clean the flock coated strips and the corresponding areas of the door frames. And miraculously the creaking is completely gone! Total silence! Now it feels again like a $70,000 car.

Even though it is probably not a permanent fix, but it sure is an easy one.

I did this yesterday - worked like a charm!
