Software update -does it delete personal settings?

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530I steptronic, Orient Blue, Dakota Black Leather, Finishers Aluminium with Wave Cutting interior, NAVIgation, Radio PROFESSIONAL, CD in-dash, Hi-Fi extended sound system, PDC system, Bi-Xenons lights with washers, cruise-control, heated seats, Extended AC, auto"shade" mirrors, auto lights sensors, rain/wiper sensor, M-tech leather multifunction steering wheel, side airbags rearseats, sliding armrest, smoker's package (I don't smoke!), velour floor mats, spare wheel and jack, 122 style rims winter setup, M135 style rims summer setup [color=red]Mods:[/color] [color=blue]M tech sport steering wheel with M5 SMG paddles working retrofit done ! I was just wondering if I get new software (CIP) reloaded do my E60 will it erase all my saved radio stations, delete address book from NAVI, setting of AC, entertainment settings, etc...


Anyone who had done it? What result?

Yes it clears everything .. i wish they could fix that somehow.

I think it depends on the version you are on and/or the dealer. Earlier versions of the software did not preserve the settings but I think, at the very least, the tech was supposed to write down and reprogram the radio presets.

I think I remember seeing somewhere that the newer versions of the software provide for some sort of backup restore to retain the settings. Anyone else know any more?

I received the 16.2 update and it wiped all my settings.

But what about the "memory key" function? Isn't all of the personal setting saved in the key?

I noticed that when I start the car with one key I get certain radio stations saved, when I use the other one I get different stations.

Anybody realized this?

Not all things are stored in the key. Some are stored in the car and get loaded when the key is recognized.

Oh, good point Iceman. That makes sense.
BTW: Do you know some good place in Munchen where to go or specificly not to go with my BMW for tuning. And also a good BMW dealer to get the newest soft. I come from Prague and I do not believe those guys here with getting new soft (more bad then good)
