How old is your battery? Weak battery will cause "few problems"
You should be more specific - what problems are you experiencing? Software may add some tweeks but will not correct problems with batteries or modules. As for MP3 use - You should test first to see if MP3 cd's play in the drive of your car (NOT the Nav MAP DVD slot). Many owners had that updated when it was first available several years ago. Otherwise, a specific update is necessary. Out of warranty a full car s/w - firmware update at a dealer could cost several hundred dollars and take several hours- even overnight. Once again, the updates will NOT fix problems - only enhance some features.
Last - but not least - BATTERY ... the root of all evil with our cars. If it's 4+ years old that might be a good place to start! Search the forum for suggestions and opinions!

Perhaps, after the holiday, one of the more knowledgeable members will chime in with more information for you.
If you are referring to the in-dash cd slot you are correct. If you cannot play an mp3 cd the ipod kit won't work. And, there was a cut-off date (I can't remember what it was) and cars produced before that date could not be coded to allow that feature. For further clarification, if you have the cd changer in the glove box, that NEVER plays MP3 CD's and to the best of my knowledge can't do that "no how"!

As far as update is concerned, it will fix a few things probably but you HAVE to specify for them to add additions in there such as +KMP3 +NAUX etc to the VO (vehicle order) or that will not be done. Best bet is to do it all yourself. It cost less than half what they're charging you to do it yourself and you get some experience at the same time.
