I keep reading about people having "software version 11.3, 13.5,etc", "i upgraded from 5.2 to 6.3, etc". It must be common for people to upgrade.

How do i find out what version I'm running on my car?
Where do i get these updates to my software?

Thank you.

From your BMW Service center is the answer to both questions. BMW tracks software upgrades so they can tell your car's software version from it's VIN and upgrade the software for you (normally only if there are software related issues with your car though)

This whole software updating thing could get very pricey for BMW service, just as expensive as a big recall I think, I mean, almost everybody that knows about it will want an update and it usually takes them at least a couple of hours and a loaner to get it done. I'm sure the whole situation with the recurrent updates will be under control in a year or so (Hopefully) but so far it is going to cost them.
I?ve had the car for five months now, I?ve had an update and I'm looking forward to the next one (Fix RDS, etc.)

With all these updates, Im just going to bring it in when i get the car serviced. By that time, it'll prob be 2 or 3 more updates later. This latest emissions recall should be done by them, but I am not going in to wait in the long line since I won't need it for another 2 years.
