mind you I didn't say' handling', I 've only only Audi's and MB's all my life

but I 've always heard that BMW's steering is the best...and these Audi's MB's don't measure up...and I've actually thought Audi and MB's had good steering..

so the question is, what is it about BMW's steering that makes it superior to the competition?

Don't all the high end car makers use essentially the same rack-&-pin steering concept??

I need to change my underwear everytime I take a sharp corner or turn in my 5 series.

You can feel the road via the steering wheel, every imperfection, ... unless you have runflats aka numbflats. With runflats the feeling is subdued. BMW is all about balance.

It could also just be the thickness of the steering wheel (sport package or m steering wheel) It just feels so awesome in your hands especially comparable to jap cars. And for my 5er its just so responsive.
+1 on replacing RFT's

I suggest you stick to the Audi/MB set up. Enjoy!

Drive one... Once you do, you don't want to drive anything else.

Before I bought my E60, I test drove an Audi A6 and it felt as though the steering was disconnected from the road. It was very disappointing. I test drove the 5 series the same day and knew after the first corner that I would buy the BMW instead of the Audi. It did feel 'connected'.
