My Ride: 2006 530XI
I actually had to describe this the other day to a friend. We just picked up a 2006 530xi and I was explaining to them how the steering was awesome. When they asked how, the best way I could describe it was that you feel as if you are actually "driving" the car. The same way people drive manuals and say they would only ever drive a manual because they prefer to "drive" the car, the steering in a BMW makes you feel like you are "driving" the car. The steering gives you the feeling of being "connected" to the car, like you truly are an extension of it.
But also, previously someone said "If you get it, you get it". That could apply here too.

If I have a 535xi with no active steering or sports package, am I still missing out on the "fun?" I always felt that while I was riding better than most other cars, I wasn't getting the "true" BMW experience by driving an AWD without a Sports tranny. But honestly, I think driving an AWD is just something else. Since I really don't race other people with cars worth mentioning (you know, the 350Z and all those other guys) I guess I really don't miss the RWD. Actually, I went from a 1994 ES 300, which was FWD, and that was all I really had driven prior to the E60. My dad has an LS 430, which I believe is RWD, which I've driven once in a while, but other than that I haven't driven or riden in a RWD car much. Again, is that bad?

If you need to ask you'll never understand! Go drive one and become one with the car! Mercedes steering is close in my opinion. Audi is good but a bit more numb...might have to do with the AWD system???

If you can't feel it, perhaps a Hyundai Genesis would be the next likely stop??? I hear great things about them!!

I haven't driven a Genesis, but I've come to appreciate them a bit more than I have in the past. They look nice and if you cant afford a BMW, then why not?
