i recently had the tcu unplugged from my car because it was causing the radio to skip and make a loud fuzzy distorted sound every now and then...it fixed the problem but then the sos call malfuntion warning came up on the screen so i had em put a different tcu in but now my radio is acting up again but the sos warning is gone now.....now they say i need to replace the whole tcu unit because its most likely faulty and its going to cause other things in my car to screw up and i'll get warnings for my traction control and my memory seats wont work properly etc etc....i was just wondering does this sound right? cuz it doesnt seem like ive had ne other warnings pop up and everything seems fine when i had the tcu unplugged....its guna cost over 1000 bux to replace teh unit so i thought id get some opinions before i made my decision, thanks in advance for any help!

You should find another dealer and get a 2nd opinion.

Welcome to the forums! Lets get some additional info from you first. What's the year/build date of your E60? Where are you located? Have you performed any angel eye upgrades or other lighting system mods? Any other electrical system mods? Are you experiencing problems with AM/FM/HD or SAT radio? Have you tinted your windows? The reason why this info is important is to determine if you have an earlier TCU, as some units had problems. Angel eye upgrades on pre-lci cars have been known to cause radio distortion issues. One way to check is to keep the lights off if you don't have DRL's. If you have DRL's and after-market angel eyes, unplug the angel eyes (PITA, I know). AM is far more susceptable to electrical distortion, but that doesn't mean FM is completely off the hook. As far as tint goes, the radio antenna wires (along with the remote transmitter and others), are embedded within the rear window. Certain tints containing metals or certain other RF absorbant/scattering materials can be problematic. Tint removal can damage the antenna wires. There are a few things to check for. Keep us posted!
