Was defo a manual, certainly wasnt making the classic automatic gear change sounds.

i drive my auto in M sometimes in such a way that it mimics a manual in both feel in sound...

How about particle filter going through its cleaning sequence? My exhaust gives POOOO sound when this thing is going on.

Is it loud, on this car it was well loud!

Hard to tell how it sounds outside, but I can hear it inside over radio.

edit: Actually it's not much louder than the normal exhaust sound, but the "tone" is like POOOOO...

Yeah, that sound frightened me the first time that I heard it!

Have you also noticed a strange smell from it if you park the car when it has been in cleaning mode?

Could be the turbo spinning down and 'gasping for air' when the throttle is closed (which is the case when you shift into a higher gear).

This sound sometimes also is noticable on big engine/turbo diesel trucks.
