i drive my auto in M sometimes in such a way that it mimics a manual in both feel in sound...

Have you also noticed a strange smell from it if you park the car when it has been in cleaning mode?
Could be the turbo spinning down and 'gasping for air' when the throttle is closed (which is the case when you shift into a higher gear).
This sound sometimes also is noticable on big engine/turbo diesel trucks.
