Default Snowflake warning light

Once every few hundred miles, the snowflake warning light comes on and dings. Lasts a few seconds, then goes away. The owners manual only describes this as "Cooling". I asked a service tech who was doing some other work and he said don't worry about it. He also said it has nothing to do with low anti freeze or anything like that.

I just do not believe it is normal for this happen, even though it is infrequent.

Any thoughts?

This is just a warning to tell you that the outside temperature is approaching freezing, and that you should be "careful". Nothing to worry about - although I find it annoying!

The snowflake waring light is for car detecting an outside temperature of 37 degrees F or less. I do believe if the temperature is fluctuating down to 37 and back up frequently it doesn't ding every time in that case after the first ding. Now, I don't recall if you are on a long drive at below 37 if the car "reminds" you every so often.

My wife's new Pathfinder does this too. I wonder what's so special about 37 degrees? Why not 38? Why not 32?

at 37 degrees bridges and other open areas will freeze over while normal freezing temperatures are 32.

This is one of the things I would like to shut off on my car. I know when it's cold out! It always startles me when it bongs....and no real reason

I read somewhere that it cannot be shut of without coding. All the new cars have this feature, so I just go with the flow. The one that annoys me is the hour chime. Why it can't chime on the hour instead of 40 seconds early? At least that one can be turned off.

+1

The first time I heard the warning I thought my engine was about to blow up until I read the manual.
