Anyone else have a transmission fault with there SMG?? Mine is at the dealer right now, with 2100 miles on it, because of a transmission fault.? It failed to shift from 1st to 2nd when I tapped the paddles and then a screen came up on iDrive indicating Transmission Fault, car will only operate in R, N, 1, 2, & 3.? Any other experiences?

I had exactly the same thing happen to me with ~ 1000 miles on it.
The dealer "upgraded" the SMG software (frankly, I assume they did nothing...)
It hasen't come back since then.

Got into my car after work yesterday, could not get the SMG in neutral. iDrive said "Transmission Fault/Failure" and car would not start. Only 1100 miles... :'(

Car was towed to the dealership, they have not been able to look at it yet. I am encouraged by others on this forum who have experienced the same thing and had it resolved by replacing one or more faulty control modules. I am hoping I am just as lucky.

I had read about SMG issues on 04's prior to getting the car, but thought I was in the clear with an 05 build. Guess not

Was told by the service manager that a "control unit" had to be ordered from Germany to fix the problem. Will take another week to get the part and install. I am frustrated, but there is really nothing I can do about it.

That is the cruelest part of all this. When I bought the car, I am pretty sure I was told by the sales group that I would get a BMW loaner. The service department is now saying "There is a 10 day wait for a BMW loaner, however we will set you up with Enterprise". I said no thanks to the rental, will drive my S4 (2nd car) instead.

Has anyone else experienced problems with getting a BMW loaner during service? Is it simply up to the discretion of the individual dealership?

If I don't make an appointment ~ 1-2 weeks in advance, they have no BMW loaners.
Last time my car had to be towed to the dealer, they gave me a Buick LaWhatever.
