Sorry I can't help you with the SMG option but I can say I don't regret the steptronic at all. Great tranny!

I have a question for you though...
Any chance you can tell us more about you spanking his Hemi? I would've thought the two cars would be pretty close in performance. What mods did he have?

Thank you all for your response, I will tell him all like it! To answer the question, the 300C has a cold air intake, borla exhaust and JET performancee chip. I have no modifications whatsoever, but I beat him everytime at the 1/8 mile track. Only 1/10ths of a second, but still the 545 won everytime.

He told us that he had $33,000 in the 300C before he started modifying. He is getting ready ot double that number. Be sure and tell him about the $3k flywheel that Dinan has concocted for the SMG for smoother shifts.

Actually, JDN and I went head to head, steptronic v SMG at the same track. It was very cool. We are going to do it again to get a real winner, that night there were some issues, so we we were not able to determine a winner.

Yes, I would also be very interested in seeing what the result would be. I would imagine that launch technique on both cars would be critical. I don't know how you would launch the SMG car with the best traction off the line. Lack of Posi-Traction would hurt both cars.

Derrick, did you have the computer traction turned off completly during the drag race? Also, did you power brake to get a good launch. I have to race a 300C that my good friend has as well and need some technique tips.

I am used to dragging a 400HP Trans Am 6 Speed at the Track.

On the three runs Derrick and I made, I never got it right. I thought I was in launch control once (DSC, et al turned off, Sport mode, pedal to the metal, etc.), but it was not remarkable, plus I kept interfering with the shift since I am programmed to pull the flippers for the shift. Once I was in manual and thought I was in D1 for launch. Bad show. One time (Derrick and the 300C were playing each other) I had a spectacular burn out, tons of blue smoke, etc. delayed the take off. Not fun. I had driven around the water to try for a dry start, but managed to break the right rear lose anyway. There may have been some water left from the previous starter or maybe she just broke lose. But Derrick definitely has his steptronic routine down pat -- no question about that. I'm not sure that I could beat him anyway.
