My neighbor is about to order his first BMW and take it on ED. (I guess he finally got tired of me beating his Chrysler 300C) ANyway, he is struggling with the SMG option of rather or not he should get it. Would those of you who have it buy it again?

P.S. JDN we finally made a convert out of him

This question has been asked and all SMG owners said "YES". I vote for that, too.

I use to have an E46 M3 with SMG II.

I don't like the non-M SMG gearboxes -- i.e., those found in the Z4 and E60. The shifts are too slow and jerky.

On the M3, it's freaking fabulous. Not only would I get it again, but I wouldn't get an M car without it.

The SMG FAQ has everything you ever wanted to know about SMG, including some advice (as well as links to other threads) on deciding to purchse the SMG option...

He told us that he had $33,000 in the 300C before he started modifying. He is getting ready ot double that number. Be sure and tell him about the $3k flywheel that Dinan has concocted for the SMG for smoother shifts.

Sorry I can't help you with the SMG option but I can say I don't regret the steptronic at all. Great tranny!

I have a question for you though...
Any chance you can tell us more about you spanking his Hemi? I would've thought the two cars would be pretty close in performance. What mods did he have?

I had the pleasure of 545 SMG and I am getting the 650 SMG in a few months. So to answer your question YES!
