Good luck and now im starting to regret getting an SMG on my 530i...I might be looking to trade in in for a reliable camry lol.

yeah I have always worried this would happen, and it seem like it happen to most of the SMG tranny... a pump cose $4000, he said the swap would cost less... i dont know what to do... Im kind of still in love with the car... I cant just move on... lol

Just trade it in while it's still drivable, it will get worse.

Yup the ydraulic pump is expensive as I told you, just change that and the fly wheel ur transmission will be lie brand new, you might expect more problems to admit it. Dont swap for a 6mt you will destroy your car even more this way.

Yeah... that was a crazy thought... lol
I removed the relay from the engine bay, and put it back in, the car was driving fine couple of mins (reverses and shifts fine)... then again the warning popped-up...
so I decided... do a little test... I removed the relay, and drove it up the on my block, my gear was shifting like it would normally, I mean; I still get the sign when I put it in reverse, but what the purpose of the relay then?

I think* (and pray im right) I have a bad relay? Im going to replace that first

This may sound dumb, but get your battery checked.. it may be weak. When my battery died, i had it jumped, and it threw out a sh*tload of malfunctions; but they were all cleared when i got it changed. I have an 04 530i SMG as well, and get scared when I read post like these.. anyhow, if you haven't had your battery changed recently, i'd get that checked first.

It's an inexpensive way to make sure you have all the bases covered before you get to changing the SMG pump. And don't trade it in, you will get next to nothing for a car with a bad tranny.
