I haven't had any problems when stopping...only when starting off on a rough road. Is the road your stopping on bumpy? Also, I really don't recommend kicking it over to nuetral. I accidentally have done this a few times (a habit from having a manual trans) and have paniced trying to get it back into gear. The brakes are so good, in slow moving traffic, I almost come to a stop to re-engage drive. I really wish there were an actual clutch pedel to override the computer sometimes.

You guys on the East coast have some extreme weather too...wonder if that is an issue?

Actually, I wish we could shift into N using the paddles. It'd be so much more intuitive than using the stick. Don't you select N using the paddles on the Ferrari F1 transmission?

Hmm, probably unlikely. I didn't notice it when it was warm cause I was still new to car and SMG. Will have to wait till spring to see if temp is an issue. Its def not an issue with snow or rain if that's what you mean - the problem occurs in the dry.

Here's a link to a thread I started a few months ago on what my idea of the perfect gearbox would be (SMG+Clutch+ H-pattern shifter). I know you read and responded there, but I think it was before you took delivery of your SMG 550i. In that thread I also discussed some of the technical aspects of how it could be done. I received a somewhat lukewarm response to my idea, but if you want to revisit that thread (or for anyone else who is interested) here's the link: >>>>>Click Here<<<<<

Occasionally when comming to a stop I get some lurching but no roughness. So it makes me think its software programming. It wasnt bad... just little lurching like suddenly losing engine breaking power so the car lurches forward a little.

BUT NOW I have somewhat bad shuddering when accelerating slowly off from a stop. Will see if they plan to upgrade my software... if they do I'll report back if the new S/W improves the smoothness of stopping.

Do you hear a click/clack sound (I can gear it even with the radio on) and feel the shudder throughout the entire drivetrain?

Who? Me? nah not really... a little, but its normal. I can hear that same amount of click/clack in any manual transmission.

My sound is definitely much louder than my E39 manual ever was.
This morning, leaving our development, the car downshifted at a stop sign so violently that I almost had a heart attack.

They really need to change your transmission or at least Hydraulic pumps!

I had the Auto mode to Manual mode problem before and when the car did that change it was violent! Bangs then heck out of the whole drive train but when I got v16.2 upgrade it pretty much fixed it. Till now... new problem.
