I stalled my old SMG car. I briefly pulled the handbrake on snow to make the car come sideways and the car just stalled.

Okay, everyone seems to think that I have stalled my SMG. No, no...

I seem to recall a certain Moderator doing so... There's only TWO moderators and one of them has SMG...

What about heavy very slow bumper to bumper traffic ... & then the same on an up hill grade?

In slow traffic its fine... I like it better than automatics as once you let go of the gas the car doesnt spring forward and if it doesnt spring forward enough you have to give it some gas and then it'll continuting flowing forward much faster than a manual. Then you'll be moving your feet from gas to brake more often...

With SMG you can ease on the gas to get it moving and once the clutch is engaged in 1st you can use enging braking to keep the car moving slowly JUST LIKE A MANUAL... not a problem at all...

again like Rudy said do not use the gas to hold the car in place on hills... use the brakes and use left foot braking or the hand brake to minimize clutch slippage.

This I AM guilty of... I overheated the clutch before.

Never will happen again b/c I'll never be in the situation again where I will be stuck on a steep incline for over a hour.

I agree, Rudy. SMG shines best in Dallas traffic. I handled the traffic OK with a stick before SMG, but would not go back to a stick in traffic.

Hi I live in LA, and although my 550 SMG is not my daily driver I have been in several traffic jams and SMG works fine. With SMG you can start the car in 2nd gear (obviously not a fast start) but this lets me rool..... Other option I have tried is to put it in auto mode...

I also got stuck earlier this year on a really bad traffic jam going to san francisco and had bumper to bumper traffic for about 5 hours (OUCH  ) and SMG did not cause any problems..

Well I think SMG is too jerky when you're crawling in traffic in 1st gear. I prefer manual in traffic since I can modulate the clutch myself and have more control. However, if I were stuck in traffic for HOURS, then I'd definately take SMG over manual.

Maybe my car's SMG is jerkier than others' here though...
