My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.
I don't park in the city because your bumpers get trashed. I always ask the valet if they know what an SMG trans is. The important thing is that they park it in gear and use the parking brake. I have had my car roll after a valet parked it, luckly it did not hit anything.

My Ride: 04 545i HUD, comfort seats, PDC, moon roof, Logic 7, Nav, Steptronic, K7 and diffusers, Aux-in for iPod!
thanks for all your replies!
but, is there a plastic valet key equivalent with comfort access? that is, the valet can only drive the car and not open the trunk/glove compartment? it seems to me that giving them the key fob is like giving them the whole, real key rather than just the plastic one.
thanks again!

My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
Sort of-
You can take the plastic key that the dealer gave you for an emergency back up and use that to open the doors.
Then you have to take it and put it in the fob located in the glove compartment. The two pieces together can be used to put in the ignition and then push the start button.
It is meant to be an emergency back up but you can use it as a valet key if you think the attendants can figure it out.
BTW, I parked in manhatten - no SMG but a regular manual trans and no issues. Just tip prior to parking and after you get the car back
