simple question about DRL!
#1
Hi everyone,, well I know this is kinda embarrasing to ask......
If I want to deactivate the DRL... the only way is to go to the dealership.. right? (I got this from the forum)
Did anybody tried go there? actually, my car is not under warranty at this moment... so I was wondering
How much will they charge for deactivating DRL ...
I know I can just call up the BMW and ask them.. but since its midnight .. I cant ask this question anywhere else... Im sorry guyz;;
SO! If there's anyone experienced this! let me know! Thanks^^

Depending on the year of your car and/or the version of the software the car is running, you may or may not be able to adjust the DRL settings via iDrive. In the USA, only the more recent cars and software (not sure what year or version right now) can enable or disable the DRLs so if you can't find it in iDrive, you're probably going to have the dealer make the change...

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
I own a pre-LCI, MY2006, and even though the software has been updated to a 2009 version, it did not enable the DRL option. Only way to disable/enable DRL on pre-LCI is through dealer. You can probably count on at least 1/2 hr labor for a 2 seconds job.

I called dealership today and asked for the price.... and I know it doesn't even take for few seconds to do that.... but they are still charging me for 1 hr labor fee as $149..........
I wish if there's other way to deactivate it... if not.. well I guess I have no option but to go to dealership..
P.S. I heard some people in this forum deactivated their DRL from dealership for free... and said maybe thats because they are under warranty...
that is weird... I don't know what is right but according to my dealership.. ' even tho you are under warranty you still gotta pay $149..'
I might have to try to call dealership in other location...

On new cars where the DRL setting is only changeable by the service department, the dealer was supposed to set it (for free) to the customer's choice during the PDI (pre-delivery inspection). If you bought the car used and want it changed, it's up to the dealer as to whether or not they'll charge you and, if so, how much they'll charge you.
If you bought the car used from a BMW dealer, I'd be surprised if they'd charge you to adjust the setting. If you bought it used from a private seller or non-BMW dealer, then I can see why they're asking for some $ to make the change. Most of the dealers charge a 1 hour minimum so in these cases, the only way to get it done at no charge is to wait until the car is in for other service and hope they'll flip the setting while doing other reprogramming or, I suppose you can see if slipping the SA (and/or technician) a little tip and begin to build a relationship that might get you some "preferential treatment" down the road...
