u seem very interseted in the car...you can clearly see from the vote that this is a mistake....your car has been driven only by you and in excellent condition...why would you want to trade that in for a car you know nothing about, except that 4 ppl have bought it and didnt like it....
I didn't buy my car brand new - it had one previous owner.

I am looking for the petrol as I am not happy with the fuel consumption of the diesel compared to what I lost in terms of refinment & responsiveness of the petrol. Also, a change of jobs meant I do now only 10K miles a year which means Fuel consumption is not an issue.

I do like the looks, refinement, responsiveness and performance (in town) of the petrol Vs the diesel.

I realize that 4 owners (although 1 of them is BMW demonstrator) is alot for a car with 10K miles but if I manage to contact the previous two owners, I may be able to get the reason why they sold it. Then I will be able to make an informed decision.

MPG/Responsiveness - get the 530D DMS'd

Do not touch a 10k 4-owner (BMW demo'd wreck - I thrash demos and I'm sure everyone else does too)

i do agree that 3 previous owners, even though bmw is the 4th, is a bit too much.

even if you are successful in contacting them, they might not give you the full story- since they traded it in and maybe don't want to admit to something. keep that in mind.

anyway, just my 2 cents. in the end, you'll be the one paying for the thing, so do what makes you happy.
good luck!

I wouldn't expect a dealer to do a straight swap - unless it was in his best interest (i.e. he's getting the better end of the deal). I'd worry about the 4 owners in such a short period of time. And, as covered in previous posts, the fuel economy won't get better.

Nah, I wouldn't.

I wouldn't expect the dealer to do anything unless its in their best interest. I think they are there solely for the profit motive.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the E60 forum and I joined today to ask your advice on an important decision I am about to make

I paid ?28K for my current 2005 530d (218 BHP) with leather, Media pack, visibility pack, service contract till 2010 and 12K on the clock.

I am not very happy about the (fuel consumption Vs refinement) of the car compared to the petrol version especially that I make about 10K miles a year and I do most of it in town (stop / start all the time).

I managed to negotiate a deal for a straight swap (head to head) for my car against a 2005 530i M sport (258 BHP) with 10K miles also with leather and mediapack but no service contract or visibility pack. Both cars are same age so have same warranty, but mine has the service pack & visibility pack where the 530i Sport doesn't.
The car is for sale for ?27K at the dealer, but he'll swap cars with me without me having to pay anything.

Shall I go for it?

Please help with your expert advice

Ps The 530i M Sport had 4 previous owners (inc BMW)!!! But has done only 10K miles. How worried should I be about this
1st welcome mate

2nd FORGET it fast!

no second hand car that had 4 owners incl. BMW that was a demo or something you may have lots of probs,

3rd WHY???

I have a 2005 07 so not new engine nor start/stop button and I am so happy, even now juiced to 265 HP and 608 Nm the milage is lower for me on trip is 4000kms so I can tell you I make 8-900 Kms with one tank, when I go over 220 constant than I do more also but hey it is not a solar car.

So please do not commit something that you would regret after.

Last if you like the M technik buy a kit and install it or buy others look this is the best place here...

Welcome and stay in that beauty

Thank you for all those who voted and left comments.

I am sticking with my 530d and I may go for a remap with DMS in the near future.

I am not happy with the fuel consumption, but otherwise happy with the car overall and I hope the remap will improve fuel consumptionas many here reported.

Not read all the other posts but can tell you I voted no don't do it. I used to have a 530d 218hp and really liked it, however, I understand against the smooth 530i it has its refinement flaws. The 530i will feel slower round town as it lacks the torque of the diesel and the mpg of the petrol version will be dire: as of course will be the deprieciation. Don't know what your budget is but if i were you I'd try and get an early 535d. Having had a lot of experience with both the d's the 535d is much smoother and more refined to drive. It changes up quicker than the 530d and sounds quieter. Remember the TG test with a 545i and 535d where the d was quieter at 70mph. The 535d is the same insurance group and virtually identical mpg. Also it will leave the 530i for dead no question. Get DMS and you'll leave anything, within reason, for dead.
