I put the chrome on the wheels and liked it regardless of what the others are saying. Must be the "Bling bling" Thing.

Seriously, you can't go wrong either way.

I would take delivery with the chrome...and then use black electrical tape to carefully cover the chrome on one side. I would then stand back look at the car from many different angles and decide what I wanted to do.

I'm of course assuming that the dealer can add the shadowline at any time and this is not a decision that must be made prior to delivery

ps- I voted shadowline

I was cued alongside a 745iL at a light today and he not only had chrome around the windows, but also along the full length of the roof on each side. Strange how BMW went in opposite directions with chrome between the 745 and the 545.

I agree, Shad=sport=bmw=macho but only for the darkest paint colors. There are those, and I am one, that chrome=elegant=classy bmw=stylish for all colors except white or silver. I had no choice for mine becaue I want sport performance. I want classy looks as in elegant not agressive. I happen to like chrome because it makes me think - machine. The chrome empahsises the body style and roofline. I like the looks of the car in the first place. The trim is a looks thing and doesn't affect performance.
So, to make the car look better, I say chrome.
To make it look meaner and sporty, black trim.

Are you sure it was a 745? It seems to me that it would have been a 760 which has those lines running over the full length of the roof on each side.

The M5 and all M cars will have shadowline if that means anything to you.

Yes, I sat there through the light and studied the effect. It was definitely a 745 - black and neat looking.

On the 3 series, chrome is an upgrade. Shadowline trim looks a little dull to me, and cheap.
