My independent garage is having trouble resetting the oil service indicator. They have downloaded instructions which describes holding the odometer reset stalk in for 10 seconds and then cycling through some graphic symbols representing oil, filter and so on which appear on the small screen in-between the speedometer and tachometer. However, when this is attempted on my 2004 UK E60, it first shows an exclamation mark (!) in a triangle mid-way into the 10 seconds and then at what seems 10 seconds it displays a series of what seems to be technical acronyms/text beginning 01.01 up to 01.09 I think after 9 presses (unfortunately, I don't have these to hand while typing this note). Rather annoyingly, but not surprisingly, the local BMW dealership seem to have problems in returning their calls to help them out on this one.
I've searched the forum and web and some people seem to use the above method successfully, while others state PCs & software are required. Is there a different method depending upon country or date of manufacture? Should something subtly different be done when attempting the above process e.g. what's the exclamation mark for?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks.
Ian.
