vnod, the car's CBS (Condition Based Service) is adaptive to many different things like driving style, climate, etc. If the car's service interval display says the oil needs changing (not just low on oil), then that oil change is covered under the "standard maintenance" schedule.
My first free (scheduled) oil change was somewhere in the 9000 mile neighborhood. Took it to the dealer, no questions asked.
Obviously, if someone wants the oil changed more frequently than the car indicates that it needs it, then they'd have to pay for that one out of pocket...

I admit to having trouble figuring out what he was asking in my trip-recovery daze last night.

Sorry vnod if you didn't understand my question. Thanks to you and Rudy for your info.
I think we can agree that as long as I only ask for service when the car tells me, then it should be free.

I think what I wrote makes sense given the hypothetical I thought he was asking about. But, I see why my reply confused you.

Darn, I must be a explanation challenged. OK, assume he is a very average driver and his car its giving erroneous oil change times--e.g., saying an oil change is needed with only 1k miles and 1 mo. on the car. Then, you will understand perfectly.
OK, maybe ....
