Hopefully you don't have the wire harness issue....

Get it fixed if you are still under warranty, BIL has a 650 and was quoted big money if he had to pay for the engine harness, lucky for him it was under warranty.

Same thing happened to me. Dealer replaced thermostat and some sensor under warranty, only for the warning to pop up a few weeks later. FInally they changed the wiring harness, which for some crazy reason took 3 days. I did get a sweet loaner though. It's been 4 months and no warning since.

Did you ever figure out the problem? I'm having a similar issue on my 07 530xi. I ran a diagostic in GT1 and pulled some error codes for the Vanos. Just curious how you were able to resolve.

i just had the same thing happen, SES light but nothing on idrive. turns out it was the VANOS solenoid and a camshaft solenoid. although i am not sure if those two things are one in the same?
Did you get this fixed at the dealer or did you dyi? How much did it run you to replace the Vanos solenoid?

This is the 2nd time in a year this light has come on for me. The first time I took it to and indy and they could not find anything and reset it and didn't charge me anything other than for the oil change I had done. This time it happened just before I scheduled the recall work for the vacuum pump recall so I had the dealer check it out, for a $138 fee mind you, and they also couldn't find anything to cause it other than possibly the gas cap having been loose at one time, though I am careful about that each time I fill up. They reset it and "suggested" I have the fuel injectors flushed for $189, I declined and will get a bottle of Lucas Injector Cleaner to add to the gas tank instead.
