I already changed the pressure regulating valves and gas cap. I guess thermostat is next. Being a half-ass mechanic it just doesn't make sense how the thermostat could affect the Emission system and in particular any thing in the fuel system.

I know right, I was thinking the same thing. I noticed you live in NJ. There's a shop called European Performance out in Wilmington, DE. They specialize in BMW repair. I got quoted $290 for a factory part (ordered from the dealership) and labor.

No light has come on since?
To update my SES light, Over the last weekend I was messing with any hoses that lead to the valve covers on the engine, just moving them and twisting them around after that I started the car and no more SES light. I didn't even have to use the scanner, I just turned on the car and it was gone. I was very suspicious that it was a vacuum leak and I think I might have been right because my engine idle's better now and and no code.
I have to say I've owned a few cars and these BMW's are very sensitive compared to the other Japanese cars I've owned.

I will change the thermostat next if it comes back, and I'll change the water pump while I'm at it too just for the shear joy that I have, working on cars

My Ride: Silver 545i loaded, Sport
Just got back from the dealer and he said my 2005 545 "Increased Emission" was caused by a rubber hose under the intake manifold that was leaking. I don't know exactly what the dealerwas talking about and I am not paying them 1050.00 to fix it. The notice comes and goes but the car seems to run ok. Anyone heard of this problem?
Thanks
Thanks

Ok so.... My SES light keeps on turning on then off at its own free will. I am for certain it is a vacuum hose. So. 545LV I think your mechanic might be right since its the same issue I have been having. When I get a chance I'm gonna try to get to that vacuum hose.

My Ride: Orient blue '05 545i, Sport/Premium Pkg, 6Speed MT, Xenon, Navi, Blue2th, PDC,
This is the part you need 11727508270
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...81&hg=11&fg=50
Since SES message was saying bank 1-4 was having a problem I also replaced the valve - 11727553101 and the gasket 11727506214
After the repair the light didn't come on.
