I need your guys help. A few weeks ago my wife and I got into our car started it up and nothing would move. Neither the driver?s side seat nor the passengers? side would move. The steering wheel would turn but would not come down from its "off" position. We immediately took into the service department and had them look at it. When we first got there things were still "frozen" and they put us right into a rental and said they would look at it. I called them back later that day and they said that everything was working now. They started a PUMA case and BMWNA told them to replace the "SZM" module. They did and things continued to work.

That is of course till tonight. After dinner we go out to the car and nothing. Nothing will move.

Has anybody heard of this or experienced something similar? If so how did your service center correct the problem?

Thanks in advance.
TJ

I just had this problem. I replaced the fuse and it fixed it right away. The old fuse did not appear bad by visual inspection. The fuse diagram is in the trunk under the tool kit. The fuse was rated 5 and you should have a bag of mixed fuses in the tool kit. The drivers seat and steering motors are on the same circuit. Try that and let me know if it works.

Thanks for the replies.

It's in the shop now, so we'll have to see what they come back with.

It's back...

So yesterday my wife on her way home from shopping calls me and says that everything was locked up again. So I tell her to go straight to the dealer and I?ll meet her there.

I go straight to the head of service and tell him what?s going on; this is the third time now. He goes out verifies the problem and has a tech take the car back into the shop. After about an hour they confirm that something is again wrong with the module and they want to replace it, but the only ones they have are dated 6/2006, and he wants to order a ?New? one and put that in. He states that they have seen issues with this build on this module.

Is he feeding me a line or do some builds have real problems?

Did you also loose mirror controls and seat heaters as well? If so, get them to check the battery. If battery voltage is slightly low at start up, non-critical systems are bypassed and not started up.

Took my dealer several months to figure this one out after replacing the module with no improvement.

I seem to remember the mirror moving, didn't check the heated seats. I will check next time it happens. Thanks for the tip.

Still need to find out if the module build date matters...
