They probably needed to see it first hand to make sure there wasn't evidence of abuse, misuse, etc. Glad they're taking care of you...

Dropped off the car at the dealer and zero hassles, SA told me he has seen a few of these issues occurred and that BMW will repair and replace at no cost. I didn't even asked if they would. That was very cool. Only downside was that they could have told me this over the phone instead of making me come in. I have to bring the car back because they have to order the parts.
How many miles on yours?
Thanks,

Hello,
Regarding the same problem, it happened to me to. the seating part of the seat almost caught fire.
I went to the dealer and they told me it can not be done unless i pay for the job. It seams that the previous owner had the backrest fixed under the same recall so i could no longer be included in the same recall. I told them that people on this forum(i even emailed them the link to this topic) have been in the same situation as me and after that they just started to give some different reasons like: that i have not done the inspection to them since 50k km(i do all my inspection to a private garage where i can have control on the costs) and that no one from the dealer inspected my car, and they wont to charge me about 100 euros just for the diagnosis regarding this matter.
1. don't you think that they charge too much for the diagnosis?
2. do i have the right to benefit from this recall to have them change my bottom seat heating even if in the same recall the backrest of the seat was changed?
thank you very much for any answer.
my car is a 11/2003 E60

With all the recalls at Toyota and Honda lately I'm positive that BMW does not want to get bad press over an extreamly dangerous fault. If I was in your shoes and they wouldn't help me I would lawyer up and go the media. It's absolute BS if they wouldn't resolve something like this!

I have the same issue with my 2004 530i. The drivers seat is toasted. There is no recall in Canada and the car has been in the shop for couple of days. Waiting for Old Republic extended warranty to cover for repairs. They would pay for the heat element and not the leather seat.

Yes, i have the final decision, they will not solve my problem because burn appeared on the bottom part of the seat and not on the back like the SIB with the recall said.
Do you have any ideas what should i do next? i mean i don't want to let this problem unsolved and i believe that it is their job to solve this problem. It is a problem from the construction and i believe they should fix this.
My father has a lousy Skoda Octavia about 10 years old and the seats didn't burned out. And he never gets the passenger floor full of water whenever the heavy rains.
i have a premium quality class car and they treat me with such disrespect. they could have at least try to look more concerned about my problem not being so expeditiously...
i guess i am somehow upset on the dealer but that does not mean that i do not love my car(with all its problems)
thank you.
