I had my 2006 E60 (Comfort Seats) passenger seat sensor mat replaced a few months ago under the 10 year extended warranty coverage BMW provided for this part. I had to convince the dealer a few times that this part was covered when I brought the car it. They gave me a hard time and a bunch of stern warnings I will have to pay if they find out something else was wrong (I have DIS so I knew the exact errors stored).

However, they did find it was just the sensor mat and I was not charged for the service. My car was NOT recalled for this issue, and because it wasn't recalled they were very reluctant to deal with it. The sensor has been working great and no more errors (it would turn off the passenger airbag occasionally even when an adult was sitting in the seat).

Strobey, so you had an actual iDrive SRS errors from the passenger mat sensor malfunction? I haven't seen any warnings from the iDrive about SRS so I guess I will have a hard time convincing the stealership to replace the sensor.

My car is doing exactly what strobeyprobey's was doing. It will turn off bag when Someone is sitting in it. 200 pound person is OK but 140's gets no airbag. NOT COMPLIANT with the law. People with normal BMI need airbags too.

Yes, I did have an iDrive error message (and airbag dummy light on the dash) eventually. But I noticed the pass-airbag off not functioning properly for about 18 months before the warning came up.

The iDrive showed red airbag icon with the message "Pass. restraint system"
"Fault in passenger-restraint system
affecting airbag, belt tensioner or
belt-force limiter.
Continue to wear the safety belt."

BMW DIS reported SBSR Satellite B-piller right module had code 95B8 "Seat occupancy detector, passenger: faulty"

Thank you. Now I am not sure but I might have the beginnings of the same problem. I went to lunch with a friend from work otday and she is quite a bit lighter then I am. The airbag light did not turn off immediately after she got it in but eventually did after about a mile of driving. On the way back I started the car after she was already in and the airbag off light never turned on.

I never received a manual with the car so I will have to find the digital one I downloaded and check to see what it said.

You can find the manuals in the INFO section of the forum (see the top line of the screen).

Here is another thread from a few years ago when mine started acting strange. It turned out that my issue is caused by the seat cover pressure. Often, I still have the light illuminated when it should not be. This seems to always be on in the afternoon when car sits outside and gets warm inside. If I press on the seat and try to manipulate the cover, the light will go out. You would think there would be one light behavior. Pre and post LCI are clearly not the same nor is our 2014 F10. On this car, the light stays on all the time or when the parameters are not met and the light is out when the parameters are met. Try and find that manual.
