What do most users of the 545i do with the screen display. I do not have the nav option and wonder if I should have the display off most of the time to save the screen. When it is off it seems that there remains some light on the screen. Any body have thoughts on this minor issue.

I don't think you should worry about "wearing out" a modern LCD screen. AFAIK there is no possibility to turn the screen completely off without modifying some of the electronics. Simply turning it off from the info menu doesn't, as you've found out, completely darken the display.

Non-NAV here also. I usually leave it on the menu screen or the CD screen so that I can switch between discs in the changer.

Yea, i leave it on the menu screen. I dont have a phone either. The screen is pretty pointless. I use the little bar at the bottom to see what track or station i am on.

LCD's are backlit so that is probably what you are seeing...the screen should last alot longer than you own the car....

I also leave the screen on the CD changer screen.

I turned the brightness down a bit so that I don't notice it even at night and normally leave it at the main screen. The so-called "off" setting bothers me because it is obvious that it is not really off. Don't know why it needs to stay on - my computer's LED screen has no problem turning off completely and starting up again quickly.

Welcome aboard, djw521 !

I would leave it on the FM menu to see the RDS infos, or on the CD menu when listening to CD's.
