im about to change tires too on my 04 530i. currently i have RFTs, if i switch to non-RFTs, will the FTM be affected?

and the bimmer is a daily car, 50mi a day and more on the weekends, purely highway roads, no tracks, which decent tires (all season) do you recommend?

I just ditched my Dunlop runflats and switched to Michelin PS2's. Really like them. Much quieter. Handling feels a little softer but still good on the corners, etc. But I haven't a spare so I need to get the donut kit from the dealer - mucho money.

Given the cost difference differences in handling and noise, I would recommend going to non-runflats.

The FTM works by monitoring rotational speed difference between the wheels. It works on both runflats and non-runflats. They have FTM as you you might not be able to tell with runflats that you have flat tire. I think that if you have non-runflats you'll probably notice that you have a flat pretty quickly.

Cheers.

I dumped my RFT's as soon as I got the car....in all my years of driving, I've still never had a blowout, just tires that lose air slowly etc. and I usually find that through my own routine maintenance. So for me it was simple, less expensive, higher performance tires....it was a no-brainer!!

Hey gang.
I have a 2004 530i. It has Bridgestone Tyres. Potenza 050 225/17/50. They are run flats and OEM.
I need to replace the two rear tyres. Should I stick with the run flats or go with a standard bridgestone Potenza and save $30 a tyre.
Can anyone suggest any better options and what are your thoughts of this tyre?
Many Thanks
=================

I am running Bridgestone non run flats on mine, and they ride smooth and handle well in curves, and in rain too, but I like the concept of the run flats, and able to run up to 50 miles when punctured and was strongly considering Michelin Run Flats next go around, but don't know now with all the negative complaints about them riding rough. I will be doing more research first. But whatever tires you go with be sure to pay to get road hazard warranty, because I had to use mine Road Hazard insurance when I ran over a nail somehow in my rear sidewall and could not be repaired, but I got a Brand new 285-30-19 $300.00 Bridgestone tire FREE out of the deal from Kauffman tire.(I would not let them or anyone else touch my 166's, but a BMW dealer, yea it cost more, but I had bad experience with one of Kauffman tire companies after High school $5.50 an hour technicians bozo's, and one of them scratched bad one of my BMW 166 rims, and management would not pay to have it repaired, and denied doing it, after complaining with no success, it ended costing me 140.00 to have repaired!

Because of convenience I purchase my BMW tires from Kaufman tire, only after I get them to price match with tire rack, but I will not let them touch my Bimmer, and then I pay my BMW dealer do the install and balancing, and four wheel alignments)

Hope this helps you some!!

I ordered my E60 with RFTs and also chose RFTs for my winter tires but then again, I rarely actually go to the limits like everyone else in here with their cars. My typical driving experience is just ordinary commuting to the office and back home and some ordinary driving in the highway (we do not have autobahns in here )
