I'm about to go on a really long road trip, still haven't ordered the tires for my 20 inch wheels. Would it be wise to get the run flat tire set up or will I be safe with out run flats? I was also wondering if the run flats will affect the ride quality.

oh man I need to order tires ASAP!

In my experience, more problems are likely to happen WITH the run-flats. The only plus of RFT's is the fact that you don't have to stop immediately when you get a flat - you can drive to the nearest shop and have the flat fixed there. But the problems are numerous: you'll definitely get more cracked/bent rims for one. Also, they are prone to bubbles. Comfort - I'm not EVEN going to saying anything about that. There are lots of threads on this issue, but to summarize: do NOT get RFT's.

Have a safe drive!

^ Agreed. Noisy, uncomfortable, and pricey.

Why do RFTs cause more bent/cracked wheels? I was under the impression that they had thicker sidewalls to be able to run flat so in turn wouldnt that offer more wheel protection? Could be way off but just curious because Im currently running RFTs but looking at some other tire sizes and contemplating going back with RFTs or not..

I dont know why they contribute to rims cracking but my SA said they do as well... just replaced a 124 in the right rear.

I switched to Conti Extreme Contact DWS's and got away from run flats... actually selling 2 brand spanking new Potenza's never mounted as well if anyone is interested. Need them out of my garage!!! See my sig.

Thicker sidewall equals harsher ride which equals more force transferred to wheel.

Yes on thicker sidewalls transmit more energy to the rim.

Use to be you had to do something really stupid to bend a 15" or 16" rim... Nowadays any typical pothole on the east coast will destroy a 19" rim without hurting your 35 profile tires. Different dynamics and the RunFlats will absolutely magnify that. I have 19s for my winter tires too and I think that was a mistake- should've gone with 17" like on my e39.

Cost of doing business I guess- but something to keep in mind. Where I live near Philly I'd probably kill 20+ inchers weekly.

But they do look awesome...
