I was at the dealer's yesterday and I saw a new 2006 530i. I noticed that the rpm limiter is still at 6500 rpm, although the manual specifies that the maximum horsepower is 258 hp @ 6600 rpm.

How is that possible? Is there something wrong in the car I saw, or is it another mistake in BMW specs?

New 530i redlines at 7,000RPM

There are white lines from just after 6,000RPM

Ok, so the redline is actually drawn at 7000 rpm on the meter? Or still at 6500, but the limiter is at 7000?

BMW#5 has a N52 powered 530i

Here you can see in his pic the red line starts at 7,000RPM

Thanks a lot. Now it is clear for me. It seems that the sales engineer confused a 2005 model with a 2006 one. Or maybe they haven't yet replaced the rpm meter on BMWs manufactured in Egypt. I really don't know.

The limiter doesn't kick in until 7K.

In US the MY starts, for some marketing reason, in March.

But the E60 is a German built car, and their MY's starts in September.

Your dealer was not confused, either he doesn't know his product he's selling or he was trying to bullshit you.
He was actually selling you a pre March 2005 built car with the old M54 engine!

To be on the safe side: if you want to buy a real E60 MY '06, see that your car has a start/stop buttom!
