2008 528xi, 32k miles, automatic transmission(unfortunately)

Whenever I pull up to a red light or stop sign, when slowing down to around 10 mph, the MPG needle swings almost all the way over to poor mileage and the RPM needle bounces around 500-800 RMPs. I can feel the engine run a little rough during this time. Has anyone else experienced this? I hate to take it to the dealer and have them charge me money just to say that this is normal behavior. Even when I put the automatic transmission in neutral and roll to the stop, it behaves the same. This does not seem correct.

This is my fourth BMW and first BMW with automatic transmission. None of the other BMWs, or in fact any other vehicle that I have owned, have acted this way.

No that does not seem like normal behavior for any car let alone a BMW. I've owned about 5 or 6 myself and never had this issue.
Is your car out of warranty? you're under 50K miles and you're just into your 4 years so if it hasn't been long it may be something they can cover for you as a courtesy. Just dont scream courtesy up front. IF it is out of warranty, let's wait for others to see if they had similar issues and what their fix was. If no one responds and you are sure dealer is going to stick it to you, then diagnose yourself. such as this since you have an '08 http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Progman-...t_26190wt_1185
By the way...welcome to the forum!

My experience might have nothing in common with yours, but I'll respond anyway. I had a very rough idle on my car and in fact without pumping the gas, it would stall. Simply disconnecting the Mass Air Flow sensor corrected this instantaneously. I took out the MAF and cleaned it using MAF cleaning spray, and after putting it back in, the vehicle would idle a LOT better, but still not as perfect as it does when the thing is completely disconnected. I'm on the hunt to get a replacement MAF sensor. Your vehicle has very low miles on it so not sure what would be going out, but I would try cleaning the MAF. Have you recently replaced the air filter?

I have the same thing. When i am slowing down it almost seems like it wants to fight the slowing down and makes that loud vibrating noise when coming to a stop like WOOM WOOM Is this what you guys are talking about?

Funny same thing here, first began to noticed in the past few weeks.
It not every time I stop but some times when i´m approaching a stop light I take the foot of the accelerator.
And then the revs drops to about 7-800 rpm and then up to about 1200 rpm and back again to 7-800 rpms,
No noice or anything, it´s seems gearbox related, like it´s shifting gear and that´s affecting the rpms.

Hrm....sort of the same thing I'm having at 44k miles on my 08 535xi (auto as well), but not nearly as drastic. Nothing happens upon approach to a stop, but once I am stopped and in drive, holding the brake pedal down...every 10 seconds or so I can see my RPMs drop by a 100 or so and then bounce back up...more like a hesitation and not violent at all. I'm thinking it's just getting to be time for new plugs maybe?

Plugs, maybe. But at 44k miles I wouldnt think so... these plugs are supposed to get 100k, and I just changed mine for the first time (as far as I know) at 90k. I would check the MAF sensor first... its a fairly quick and easy fix. Have you guys run for codes to see if anything is coming up? Just because there is no dash error message or lit icon doesnt mean your car isnt showing a code for something... just a thought.

Yup scanned and nothing comes up....I'm due for a oil change anyway, it's CPO'd as well...hopefully they can find something.

No error codes, when I think a little bit the problem may have come after I reset the gearbox adaption via INPA
