Ok, so I'm nearing the end-of-life of the OEM Dunlop runflat tires. The car is a 2005 545 with sport package.

I've never really objected to the ride or the noise of the Dunlops, but I am tempted to replace them with the same size Michelin PS2s. I would like to hear from those of you who have made the switch if there are any major or minor handling differences between the tires, since the car's suspension is set up for the stiffer runflats.

I have a 535i sport with 11000 miles and the Dunlop RFT's have started making too much noise. I was thinking of getting the PS2 myself. Opinions?

 

PS2 will grip better and this is the answer you will get from around 90% of the people here. End of story.

The RFT Vs Non RFT issue has been discussed extensively here, do a search and you'll find like a dozen threads.

 

So the RF's don't still work as they should even on a LCI!?

Are you running 18 inchers and do you have 275's rear?

But must say, that any tire will get louder as the miles increases.


The PS2's are said to last the longest but any tire will die after hard driving in some 10 -15 kM.

The new tires are soft to give the best handling possible but wears out sooner.

If the tread is less that 3-4 mm, the tires should be changed.

From a year I have PS2 and they are astonishing .
Now I have to replace the rear ones :-))

Well I am just back from some serious two days on the Tail of the Dragon on my then 1000 mile old PS2s. It may be that I was more aggressive due to expecting more than from my previous 16-20 runs threre on RFTS, BUT... I saw more DSC action and felt I was leaning more in the corners (I sure the car looked just as flat as ususal), but it was a little unsettling. Yes I THINK they are quieter than my Bridgestones Protenzas (53k miles on two full sets) and yes, they may be a bit smoother (more compliant) but I must say on those twisties I felt more comfortable with the RFTs under me than the PS2s. I had them up in PSI a bit to try to prevent the "rolling over" feel" but could not eliminate. Maybe I have to go even higher in the fronts (was at 36 cold).

Won't be able to try again until April. Will bump pressures up even more.

 

That's interesting...but not all that surprising, actually.

The editors of Roundel suspect that when BMW states they tuned the suspension for RFT's, they did that by softening the shocks and springs. So if you switch out the RFT's, then you'll basically have a softer suspension on regular tires. The ride will be more comfortable, as most members here can confirm, but not sure about the handling...

Yes I have 18 inchers and 275 in rear. From what I gather from this thread PS2 might be too soft for the LCI. Do Michellin have good RFT's?
