for your imformation, i spent an hr at the tire shop struggling to decide between a set fo 166 and 172 - both priced the same, about 2500 EUR (with conti vmax tires - super price) - if you need the contact in germany, send me an email). the reason why i went for the 172 and not for th 166 was simply not because of the looks but because if you look at your car datasheet, bmw does not allow you to drive a car with the 166 rims - this is a big issue in germany and austria with T?V. so if i was caught in an accident and if the alloys are not legal, then the insurance does not pay. am not sure how strict you guys are in sweden but it could be a problem - think about it. btw, if you do go for 166, pls take the e60 tire sizes, ie. 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 rather than the m5 tires sizes. unfornuteyl there are several people on ebay claiming that the tire sizes of the m5 match with those of e60

Could someone please explain why BMW does not allow you to drive with the 166 rims? Is it some sort of safety issue? What is TUV? I'm curious because I have seriously been thinking about purchasing these wheels. Thanks.

Why does BMW does not allow using the 166 on the 360? Well simply because the offset is different - if i remember correct, the offsets are:
172: ET 18 front, and ET 32 rear
166: ET 12 front, and ET 28 rear
Otherwise, the wheels are identical in size. Well basically, if you look at the car papers provided in Europe, they tell you exactly which wheels are allowed with which offsets, and definitely, the 12 front and 28 rear is not listed. if you called BMW and asked if they would sell the 166 for an E60, they tell you that you are not allow to drive an E60 with the 166 wheels. The T?V is the governing body in germany and austria that check that your car is legal. If you were going to use 172 wheels, then you dont go to t?v because the wheels have been officially released by bmw for the e60. if you got yourself aftermarket wheels by company xy, then you go to T?V and let get these wheels made by company xy put in to your car papers, consequently these wheels become legal. Of course company xy must have a written documentation provided by T?Vs of the T?Vs claiming that the wheel can be used by the E60.
