I just knew that there would be someone who has first hand knowledge of this.

It makes a refreshing change from all the consolidation of othe guesses and other articles.
Well, I didn't want to say but I have a 2007 535d sitting on my drive. Damn non-disclosure from BMW prevents me saying...

However, the new engine makes the old 535d seem like a tractor! (Does it really have 6 cylinders, more like 3 I reckon!)

Some good feedback here, sort of in two minds whether to buy brand new now or wait till March, then put an order in.

You would be mad not to try to wait until March!
Apart from the nice changes they will make to freshen up the car (and perhaps there are additional ones we don't know about), your resale value will be that bit higher for the facelifted model when it comes time to change again in a few years.

Then again, you'll pay more for the car whereas prices for the current model are probably softening up, so in the end...

There is never a good time to buy a heavily depreciating asset.

Oh god, never thought of that..... which is so true, for e.g discounts on the new 335d are virtually non existant at present, we can get a new 535d sport at present for just under ?41k with most toys, 19's, media pack, visiblity, sun protection, logic 7

choices choices

So, it sounds like the facelift next spring will also bring some engine changes.

From everything I have read the following changes should apply to the 535d

- crank case changes from cast iron to all-aluminium
- reduction in weight by 25 kg (bringing engine weight down to 208Kg)

- power upgraded from 200kW to 210kW (286hp)
- peak torque will go up to 580 Nm (427 lb-ft) up from 560Nm
- 0-100 km/h acceleration unclear but will be less that the current 6.5 by a few decimal points
- slightly better fuel consumption (if like 335d then maybe 7.5 l/100 km (37.7 mpg Imp))
- common-rail system @ 1,600 bar (no change there)

- new version of automatic transmission with 50% faster reaction and shift times
- automatic will have direct gear search function so it can instantly skip gears when required
- option of steering wheel paddles. Unclear if these will be standard?

Is this about right?
Oh good no major improvements then!!! Because they can't - there aren't any they could add.

Lol, here you go pal. The specification is as follows:-

535d sport UK car, metallic silver grey or toying with black at present.

Alloy wheels - 19" M Double Spoke, style 172 (only available when space saver spare wheel selected)
Floor mats
Heated front seats
Interior trim - Maple Wood, high gloss
Logic 7 Professional HiFi system
M rear spoiler
Media Package - Bluetooth telephone preparation + telematics, BMW 6 disc CD changer, BMW Assist, Extended Voice Control System & Navigation system - Professional
Metallic paintwork
Sun protection glass
Upholstery - Dakota leather, Auburn
Visibility Package - Adaptive, Bi-Xenon headlights with wash system

?41736 from www.broadspeed.com - car will come from Coopers BMW Wimbledon or ?40,784 from www.new-car-discount.com. They are round the corner from where i'm working on client site and been to see them too. Seem fine.

Hope that helps, now the question is whether to wait for the facelift or take the plunge.......
