My Ride: 320d SE (E90) manual - Sapphire Black, Beige Leather Sports Seats, Burled Walnut, Heated Seats, Sunroof, Comfort Access, Hi-Fi sound, Bluetooth, Side-Window blinds, Through-Load, Luggage Net, PDC Front & Rear, Adaptive Xenons, Style 158 17", Chrome Grill & Window Trim, Blackline Tailights, Power folding/dimming side mirrors, Split Armrest, Dual Zone Climate, Cruise, LEDs on door handles, iPod nano, SE K750i
So, it sounds like the facelift next spring will also bring some engine changes.
From everything I have read the following changes should apply to the 535d
- crank case changes from cast iron to all-aluminium
- reduction in weight by 25 kg (bringing engine weight down to 208Kg)
- power upgraded from 200kW to 210kW (286hp)
- peak torque will go up to 580 Nm (427 lb-ft) up from 560Nm
- 0-100 km/h acceleration unclear but will be less that the current 6.5 by a few decimal points
- slightly better fuel consumption (if like 335d then maybe 7.5 l/100 km (37.7 mpg Imp))
- common-rail system @ 1,600 bar (no change there)
- new version of automatic transmission with 50% faster reaction and shift times
- automatic will have direct gear search function so it can instantly skip gears when required
- option of steering wheel paddles. Unclear if these will be standard?
Is this about right?

I could become an expert by paraphrasing the guesses of others and quotes from articles that others have read.
Doubtless real experts with first-hand knowledge will set you on the right path.
Haven't heard from one so far on this topic!

Sounds spot-on. Paddles will be standard if the 3-series 335d is anything to go by...
It makes a refreshing change from all the consolidation of othe guesses and other articles.

I just knew that there would be someone who has first hand knowledge of this.

I hadn't spotted the the paddles were now standard with the 335d. The last time I checked on the 335i the paddles were an option (?300) on top of the automatic transmission but it looks like very recently they have made them standard with the automatic (and pushed up the price accordingly).
Sounds like this engine will be a very nice improvement particularly with the transmission and the weight saving...

Actually, I didn't consolidate guesses so much as look in detail at the specs of the revised engine as it exists today in the 335d and the X3 3.0sd.

I am new to this forum and find your style a bit unusual.
Are you always so caustic or are you just having a bad Monday?
Could you lighten up just a little

Certain topics are less factual/experiential and more guesswork/restatement.
IMHO this one happens to be inviting the latter, but I am prepared to be proven wrong as always.
In no way are such contributions wrong and they serve a purpose - sometimes they may even convey fact.
