Thumbs up

Quick question,

A couple of weeks ago i had another fault(to add to the growing list), a restraint system fault. well i booked it in at BMW (it was due a service anyway) to get it sorted. the fault was tracked down to the passenger side seat occupancies sensor. they said that it had only logged it twice in the last few week so believed it to be a loss connection rather than a sensor fault. well after re-leaving me of another ?90 to reset the computer and wiggle the wire and ?260 for the service (oil) the fault was gone and the car felt like new.

you know what coming, 5 day later and the fault back.

here the question. the idrive tells me there has been a fault with the system. I assume that it the seat sensor, will this affect the rest of the safety stuff in the car, airbag, etc... in an accident? the faulty seat is the front passenger ( i would guess that passenger side wouldn't work) The dealer was very vague on this. they quoted ?350 ish to fix it.

What do you think?

Thanks

I believe what's happening is someone is sitting in your passenger seat and the light above you that says "passenger airbag off" is lit up. Maybe you don't have the light on your car?? If you do just check that next time someones sitting in there. If this is the problem, the airbag for the passenger will not go off in an accident.

The passenger airbag has not been turned off and the fault/warning in constant, regardless if someone is sitting in it or not.

is the occupancy sensor needed to deploy the airbag or is it just for the "no seatbelt warning" light?

I've added photo's of the idrive warning and the dash warning lights.

Here is a good starting point.

Is your car under warranty? My advice would be to push this recall first, since this option wouldn't require any outlay of cash. It might take a few calls to BMW NA or AG wherever you're located.

Thanks for the reply.

Reading the other threads, it looks like it may only be for USA.

I will ring BMW later today and see if the recall happened here too.

Right in the UK there was no recall for the seat mat sensor only the control unit.

this was only a reprogram/update no parts.

recall No. 0061180200 (if this help)

Well I've had the software update on the recall back in march 05.

Looks like I'll have to have the seat mat sensor change .

The number for BMW UK if anyone want to check if there are any outstanding recall on your motor is 0800 325 600.

Thanks for the help everyone.
