my iDrive hasn't warned me of anything yet. But, my service rep has said I should bring it in, and that it is under a recall so they do all the work for free.
OP I would strongly suggest that you stress the issue of the recall and try to get it fixed through them so you don't pay a dime.

I appears that the recall was only on the US car. not the UK.
i have a friend that can rest the warning light. I'll have a bash at fitting the sensor in the seat then reset it.
This way it should only cost around ?100 for the sensor.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Hi all. I took my E61 525d 2005 to Stephen James in Ruxley. they are kindly pluged it into their system and told me is the (SIM) = Safety and information module. Coding and programming required.. they quoted me ?481 plus 6hours labour, which comes to ?1000 pound over the telephone conversation. before I took my car in with lots of reseach, so i know approximately how much it is going to cost. but ?1000 is a joke. i hope the guys will get rip off themselves by other trade one day and they can have a feel about the experience i had with them.
yes. i had it fixed at a local bmw specialist, they reprogrammed it for me and fixed my air con problems for under ?200.inc VAT. fantastic.. they told me the sensors are fine, just need re-programming.. no way ?1000. he said to me to pay him ?1000 now and he will give me full monty service to my car for the next 3 yr if i wanna do it that way jokingly!!
I am very disappointed to these main dealer, and it is 2nd one this time.

I have the same problem. Took it n for the recall problem solved. Of course it was a seat mat sensor. Now mtgs later and the light is back on. Needless to say the dealer said it's a diff problem not connected to recall. So I called na BMW and told them the dealer wanted to charge me 600 to fix. Bmwna called the dealer and said they would give me 50/off labor. So now I'm looking at still 5 and some change.

I just had mine in and out this morning. They simply said the error popped up as an issue with software. They uploaded the most recent software and it was free. Based on some of the responses to this I guess I got lucky.... for now!
