Why does my loaner 2007 328xi have the Rest feature but my 2008 535xi does not? Are they cheaping us out of the Rest feature?!?!?
You have it, you just don't have a button labeled "REST" like the older style cars.

Take a look at post #5 above...

I haven't tried the twisting of the fan knob, but the "LCI" cars have the rest feature hidden away in iDrive. Go to Climate, Parked Car Operation, Ventilation Settings, Parked Car Ventilation. Or something of that fashion.

It's a useful feature if you have to run in the store on a bone-chilling day, and you want the car to be warm when you return to it.

Nope. Not the same thing. REST is not the same as parked car ventilation...

I use this feature three times a day. Once to drop the first child at preschool, then for the second child to daycare, and then for Dad's Starbucks. It is a feature I really appreciate.

It's a great feature -- the toughest part is remembering to set it before getting out...

You need to make sure the ignition is completely off before pressing the button...

Ok, thank you, I'll try .

PS : can you move, as moderator, the thread of the V10 on the mod section ?

What's the difference? I'm not talking about when you set the time for the ventilation to come on, BTW.

Parked car ventilation (also called independent ventilation) is designed to cool the cabin by moving air through the car for 30 minutes. According to the pre-LCI owner's manual, it's not even available at outside temperatures below 59F or 15C. You can activate parked car ventilation manually (to run for 30 minutes) or via two independent timers (to start at a preselected time.)

REST (or residual heat mode) is designed to keep the cabin heated and will move warm air (passing through the heater core) for up to 15 minutes (after 15 minutes, the engine's residual heat is gone so it would just blow cold air.)

I don't know for sure but I think that the REST air comes out of the floor vents (as heated air should) and the parked car ventilation comes out of the dashboard vents (as cooled air should).

If you've been using parked car ventilation in the winter instead of REST, you're probably not seeing the system work as well as it could...
