ok, this has been a while now. Are you planning on taking the car in to find out why this is happening? I've been told that it doesn't matter if it has gone red, you can still reset it.

i talked to the service manager at BMW and he said that it should reset. He did not tell me to bring it in. I have reset it before and so has my indy mechanic. I asked him if anything had changed to where I could no longer reset it, and he said no. And he said I should be able to reset it even if it's gone over.

So what are you going to do now? It seems you have exhausted everything...

Frankly I don't know. My indy mechanic is lost (he said he tried for 20 minutes). The dealer said it should work (and didn't ask me to bring the car in). I can't find anything on the internet. No one could figure it out here either. I did it before with ease but it doesn't work now. So beats me what else to do.

Just trying to toss some ideas up for you:

-I'm assuming the doors are closed and you have buckled your seatbelt? (emphasis on the seatbelt part)
-Do you have any idrive screen errors that come up when you start the car? pass airbag? anything that requires you to click the return button? If so, clear those first

So now, with the doors closed, seatbelt buckled, and idrive screen cleared, go to the idrive settings menu and go to where it displays your maintenance information (oil change, microfilter, spark plugs)
-highlight the oil change interval
-go back to the dashboard and proceed with the video process (go to the date...)
-when you are asked to RESET? hold the button until it clears "----" AND says 15000 (hopefully)

If it still doesn't work (this is a long shot) unplug the battery for 3 hours and try again.

That's a good thread to read on this. The last page also details that clearing the trip od is crucial. It's important to note that some people have the same issue (when the warning goes yellow-red, only the dealer can reset it then) and that it MAY be based on what version you are using.

This just happen to me on a car I was working on yesterday and I was able to get it to reset by resetting it twice when it asked if I wanted to reset. I spent 20 minutes before figuring this out.
