Hello all,
As in the topic stated, I did a reset to the brakes indicators in the iDrive by Bruce_Mirandas instructions. The reason was that I changed the rotors and the brake pads to new ones.
After the reset, the fronts showed 40.000km to the next change, and the rears 50.000km. I find this curious, because the fronts do wear in proportion quicker than the rears, thats why the front pads are thicker as new.
Did I do something wrong? Does anyone know what the default settings are?
I have driven 70.000kms with my car, and there are still half of the linings left on the original pads, so this 40.000 & 50.000kms can't be correct.
Greatful for any ideas?

never mind what the computer says, sometimes we know things better than them than just some logic based entry level sensor saying what you need and what you dont....just drive and change them when you feel you need to change them.....

after you have done the reset? cant you fix the next change? like put when u want to change them, whether the next, 20,000 or 30,000 or 40,000. cant u specify when to change them through the idrive?
or through the knob in the dashboard?

I don't think you can change the intervals, only reset them. I recently changed my rotors and pads and then reset the brake indicators through the odometer process (posted elsewhere in the Forum).
The computer is simply estimating the remaining life in the pads. There is no sensor that monitors the gradual wear on the pads. There is, though, a sensor (left front wheel and right rear wheel) that monitors when the pads get to a minimum thickness level. This sensor is binary - it's either burned through or it isn't. I didn't need to replace that sensor when I did my brake job because the brakes had not worn down to the point where that sensor had made contact with the rotor and burned through.
