Hi everyone, I am a newbie to the E60 forum and would like a little help from the experienced.
i am looking to replace my E39 530i sport with the newer E60 model, preferably a 530d (due to the UK's high fuel/tax costs) but would consider the 530i again.
Can anyone give me a few pointers as to watch out for on the 530d/i with regard to faults or items that wear quickly, I have had superb trouble free motoring from both my e39's and indeed a couple of E34's in the distant past, so I am hoping the new model is going to be a good buy.

Thank's in advance.

Hi WindyMiller, welcome to the forum it is a mine of (mostly) useful info.

My advice would be to go for a car with at least a years warranty so you can ensure any deep seated issues are ironed out whilst you are covered. Even if it is 3-4 years old you can get a years cover from a BMW dealership or good independent.

Are you looking for new or used? Give us an idea of your ideal spec. besides a 3.0d or i.

With the cost differential between petrol and diesel in the UK the fuel cost per mile is very very similar for models from March 2007 (efficient dynamics).

Also, a new 530i would present you with a lower tax bill than a 530d if you are talking about a company car.

Regards,

I am amazed you had superb trouble free motoring with your E39s, both of mine were inflicted with cooling system problems such as fans, radiators, water pumps and thermostats which I have read were the weak link in the E39. I have had to replace the alternator on my E60 at only 36,000kms so I would recommend a BMW warranty.
