hello guys,

I was sniffing around looking for a topic that will anwser my question but to bad.
so i bought a M steeringwheel for a E60 this is the type of model. http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/attachmen...m6-650i-m61.jpg .

my question is that I heared that there are differences in those steering wheels something like before 09/2005 and after 09/2005, but what are those differences and do they all fit on a E60 and the steering wheel is without an airbag. wat kind of airbag do i have to buy, or it doesn't matter. my car is a E61 from 04/2005 and the steering wheel is from an used car from 02/2005. maybe this steering wheel was for sale because the car had a accident if this is true is there a problem for mouting this steering wheel into my car?

thanks for your attention.

The mounting points are different between pre- and post- 9/2005.
You need to get the round airbag, and it needs to be the one that matches your batch of steering wheel (pre 9/2005).
Sounds like the 2/2005 steering wheel should fit your car with no problem.

Good luck

go to this website and enter the last 7 of your VIN. It will tell you the production date of your car. For example I have a 2006 530i, but it was built on Jun-05, so it's pre Sep-05.

Yes, many parts fittings, including the steering wheel are different pre and post Sep-05, go figure.

I might get a steering of the new M3, will it fit on my LCI 525d? I currently have the standard steering wheel.
I'm skeptical about the airbag not functioning !

Guys, the mounting behind the steering is different betweent a Pre 09/05 and a post 09/05.

If you want to do a retrofit it'll be troublesome.

And no, a M3 steering can't fit on E60 cos the mounting size is different.

BAMJW - just be careful when you get the steering. Recently, I got a steering from a guy in this forum. Condition on exterior and mounting was correct but when I asked him to take pics of it without the airbag, he refused but I tot nothing should go wrong but... WRONG......

The M5 steering came was a post 09/05 one but the mounting plate inside the steering was pre 09/05 (do you understand me? If not search around the forum and you will know) the airbag would not fit and when I wrote to him to ask for explanation, of course he didn't reply. Lucky thing was the mounting plate cost about 65USD so I didn't really make a big deal with the guy.

Learn from my lesson yeah, check everything and ask them to take a photo with a written note that you instructed, eg I Luv E60 so u can verify authenticity.

Rgds
