It would be interesting to know if any of you have changed your Solenoid o-rings on the Vanos system at your 545/550?

This is a known problem on the I6 engines, and have been so since Vanos where introduced. A 20$ make over, with new o-rings make a big difference.
All hesitation and sluggishnes will be gone when Vanos is working as ment to. Much of the vanos rattling usually dissapear as well when new o-rings is installed.

But I have not read anything about the V8 (N62) engine.

Maybe this is an operation worth checking out on the N62 as well?

C?mon guys, anyone?

This is important. No one would like to loose power, ehh?

FYI;
On the local (SWE) forums, just about everyone with M3 have done this simple O-ring change and can tell about huge improvements.
No more intermitent throttle hesitation, twitching, rough idle, loosing top end punch.
You know, all the small annoying things that is hard to put your finger on.

(To avoid confusion, I would like to add that the rattling issue mentioned in the first post is not for N62. There is no gearbox in the N62 vanos system, as it is in the older systems)

Not sure what you mean by changed...
..changed the o-rings with after market ones ?

do we need it on our N62's ? -can't complain with rough idling or lost high end punch on my car - I might have a bit of throttle hesitation but nothing sprintbooster can't solve I guess, no?

Changed to aftermarket, or just replaced them with new OEM ones.

Actually I do not have any issues with my motor either , but this precaution could categorize under, -better be safe than sorry
If it is a known fact/problem on other older BMW Vanos engines.

Can the solenoid by changed without dissassembly of belts or other covers/gaskets? Will it just pull out once the retaining clip is removed? Seems like a pretty easy proactive fix. and not that expensive.

One more question: If the entire solenoid is replaced too will it require calibrating or any learning that requires a trip to the BMW place?
