Removing Navigation DVD from Fried CCC

My Ride: 2006 530si Sport, on a boat as I type!! Orient Blue, Beige leather, premium package, premium sound, cold weather, steptronic, power shades, fold down rear seats, rear seat heat, park distance control, navigation & Sirius satellite radio.
I just found a replacement CCC for my 2006 530i. I'd really like to get the Navigation DVD out of my old fried one without smashing it to bits. I saw a recent post that explains how to "swap out" the DVD drive from one CCC to another, but is there a not-too difficult way to extract the DVD without having to power it on? Unfortunately, BMW's engineers didn't put one of those little paperclip holes like they have on most computer DVD drives, otherwise I'd be set 
Any help would be appreciated.
