That's a good question - I was curious to know the answer as well and checked realOEM and it seems that system is installed in cars other than the United States. The diagrams are nearly the same for the Euro 530d and the USA 530xi trunk I checked.

So, the OP only needs to figure out how to grab the little handle in the trunk [#10 in the pic that is attached to #13] - probably thru the rear seat opening: the first is the Euro trunk ... the second pic is a USA e60
