i agree with putting the key under your chin.. works with my benz and my bimmer. i would lock the car from a distance.. and when it wouldnt work i wouldnt walk back. i would put the key under my chin and it would work. i also agree with the accidental pushing of a button and it could unlock the car when its far away.. before i would be at my girlfriends house lying on my stomach on her floor with her watching a movie. my keys would be in my pocket and her dad would come in and tell me that my car is alarming or my trunk opened. now i always remember to take my keys out of my pocket.

I had it ihappen to me, it turns out that a wire came off off the rear windshhield and had to be reconnected by the deasler. Since then great range.

Hi,

It happened to me... suddenly range is now only few inches ! Yes, I have to put key right next to back window where the antenna is located then it still works. Broken amplifier sounds very good explanation to me. Guess what, dealer said that my window tint (which contains small metal particles) causes this... messes up the signal Remote has been working fine 4 months with tints and no problem: easily within > 50meters range.
And suddenly it went to this lousy condition.... anyway I've booked next visit to dealer and they can figure it out....

Try the under the jaw idea described earlier.

I guess it depends on the number of fillings!

I had a car with a normal key and the range was very low - few inches :'(

I now have an 07 model with start button and different remote and the range is about 20 meters (including walls).

We have two keys, and we are almost only using one of them. The key which we are almost never using have a short range, if I haven't used it for a longer period. But after a 2-3 hours trip with key nr. 2 the range is just as good as the key we use all the time...

The reason: The battery inside the key, is recharged when the key is inserted in the "keyhole" and the engine is running

So I'm using key nr. 2 now more often, so the battery in that key have a chance getting charged.

For me the range is independent of the key most recently charged.

Hi,

Something is wrong defenately, maybe loose connection somewhere. Guess what... Just left from work and remote key started to work perfectly ... no range problem.

I had both of my keys (wife used other one) in active use before this problem occured. And problem was with the both keys, so it cannot be the battery of the keys... dealer also verified that. And excatly after one week the good range is back. This feels really one of those annoying issues which keep coming and never find the actual cause.... fingers crossed.... warranty period is also running out in few weeks
