Does anyone else have an issue with the range of their keyfob when locking/unlocking the doors. (Not comfort access)

I have to be standing right next to the car otherwise it doesn't work. I constantly find myself getting out of the car and walking away whilst locking the car at the same time and I then have to turn round and come back a few paces to try and lock it again.

I would swear it was a low battery but the car is only 3 months old and in any event it recharges in the ignition.

Be interested to hear of any fixes.

PS Holding the fob against my head and pressing the button is not the answer I am looking for!

There was somebody else having this problem here on the forum. But I don't remember who it was and what was done to solve the problem.

I can easily lock/unlock mine from 100 metres...

Mmm. I had the same issue (bought the car - used - in early July), and compared to my old E39, the range was absolutely pitiful. I could find the E39 from 200 yds away, and the E60 had problems in going much beyond 20 ft. However, after two or three long-ish rides in the car (4 hours driving without stops), things have improved considerably, and now effective radius is ~30 yds, which is not great, but enough.

I don't know how the battery is recharged, but I imagine it's through an induction loop; perhaps it's just an inefficient one and it takes a long time to re-charge the battery.

Will try tomorrow with the second key - which seems to be equally ineffective - and let you know!

Hold the key to your chin and you'll get more range.

have to agree, it also bugs me that the orange flash to confirm locking is slow to happen, on my last car (golf) the orange confirmation of locking flash was immediate, and it let a discreet but audible chirp to let you know it was locked. the audible chirp was a programming option in the golf that wasnt there until unlocked by a friend with a laptop and vag-com software, im wondering is the audible lock chirp a programming option on the bmw too?

The chirp/flash is programmable via the I-drive.
