Does anyone have the actual BMW SIB repair bulletin for the recall? I'm inclined to just check myself.

I don't think the dealers have gotten the SIB yet. When I called Crevier to see if my car was affected (I haven't gotten a letter yet)the service tech said they had not gotten the parts associated with the recall yet, so maybe they haven't gotten the SIB yet either. They said they would call me once they have the parts needed to perform the service.

Crevier is who told me that the parts are backordered from Germany still. Like I said, they won't send out notices to us until they get the parts in. I also mentioned to him that there have been stories about that cable causing fires. He said he never heard that. I've dealt with this service rep several times and he seems very knowledgable, so I guess we just wait.

The vaseline is to prevent sparking from any metal on metal rubbing near the battery. Sparking is what causes the fires even when the car is asleep.

OR maybe vaseline is for your use the next time you go to the dealer to make things go more smoothly when you get the bill.

They suggest keeping the car outside so any car fire won't also burn down your house.

Transport Canada Recall may explain this problem more clearly.
Number of cars are only those in Canada. E60 cars are more rare here than US.

Transport Canada Recall # 2012109

Recall Date 2012/03/23

Notification Type Safety Mfr

System Electrical

Manufacturer Recall Number
Units Affected 16,748

Category Car

Recall Details On certain vehicles, the insulated bulkhead connector (used to join the two halves of the positive battery cable) may have been incorrectly installed during vehicle assembly. Over time, the bolt connection could loosen, which would increase electrical resistance. In addition, an incorrectly insulated bulkhead connector could allow humidity to accumulate at this location, causing current leakage. These issues could cause the cable connection to overheat, which could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, secure the insulated bulkhead connector. In addition, protective grease will be added to the area and the plastic battery positive terminal cover will be replaced.

Hello all

I have just came back from Niello in Sacramento, CA and had my recall done . It called Saftey recall B611412, Battery Cable Connector. No rest was needed, as they charge for anyupdate or rest. All systems running fine.
