On my fifth set of rear tires and it's getting a little expensive. The rears are worn on the inside to the point of seeing the cords. They got this low because the rest of the tire is like new. The front tires look great. Tires have been properly maintained, I'm just at a loss. Anyone else had this problem?

I noticed that you have the 2004 545, similar to mine. The door sticker was changed for tire pressures in 2005, probably because of wear problems with the Dunlops during 2004. I have had Dunlop replace mine, and I imagine you may have, too. The tire pressurews were increased considerably in 2005 to 36 psi front and 44 psi rear. My current set is wearing well so far -- 7,000 miles. Good luck.

I would be interested in what psi you are running your tires at....

My 04 545i Sport lists 38 psi front\42 psi rear...are those numbers different than yours? Seems high to me, but I have never run RFT's before.

I never remeber anyone telling me about a change in recommended psi. I changed to non RFTs awhile ago, RFTs left a bad taste in my wallet.

Just took off my Dinan wheels to give the stock rubber (nonRFT Pirelli PZero Nero M+S) more miles on the road before I decide to switch back. After about 5000 miles on the new rims and Bridgestone tires, I've noticed the rear rubber is noticeably less vs. the front mainly from the angle of camber that the rear sport suspension is set to. Looks like I have less than ~15,000 miles left for the rears before they hit the wear bars and about ~25,000+ miles for the fronts before those wear out. I'm running 35 psi front and 40 psi rear when running the Dinan rims. I might consider raising the rear pressure up a bit to about 42-44 psi when I remount the Dinan rims. With the stock rims, I'm running 30 psi front and 35 psi rear (indicated on the door jamb).

I had my car in at the dealer for an unrelated matter and got a phone call saying my rear tyres (Dunlop RF) on the inside were worn down to the metal, i was shocked as the outside had plenty of wear left, i had not even noticed the uneven wear. I replaced them with RF Bridegstone Potenza 050A's. I will now be keeping a very close eye on the wear of the inside.

I have the same problem and recently replaced my rear tires which the metal wire were already exposed. Luckely, I regularly check my car's condition and caught the problem on time. If you notice by looking from the rear, the rear tires have a negative camber which means that the tire are leaning more towards the inside of the car (I hope I am not confusing you). Maybe next time I am due for service I will ask about it....

Did you get the tires replaced for free due to the Service Bulletin? I don't have the link but the # is SI B36 02 05

It states Noise and or vibration caused by Irregular wear of the Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST RF due to Irregular tire wear...

Correction..
if this situation is detected based upon a customer complaint and/or during a service visit: and only if the tires have less than 20k miles, replace all four

That is the loaded pressure on the door serial plate as mine. However, the same tires on the '05 models had just one spec., so we were told in this forum and it was 36 front, 44 rear -- loaded and empty. So, I changed and am doing pretty good after I got rid of the bad set of Dunlops.

Do a search of around two years ago or further back and see what you can come up with.
