why does the SE (sedan) have the red reflectors in the bottom half of the bumper? i thought the rear lights had the legal reflectors built in, why duplicate this?
also if its a "safty" thing...then why does the Msport not have them? (does that not need to be as safe?)

it baffles me.
Could be the SE bumpers are "boring" as they are so the designers felt they needed to make the design more complicated and add some interesting reflectors.

cheers

That's a relief. Thanks.
My pleasure. The funny thing is US-Spec'd cars. 04-05 builds came with black plastic inserts (Fig. 1), instead of the red reflectors. 06-08 they painted the inserts to match the body (Fig. 2). For LCI, they've gone with the red reflectors (Fig. 3). For a while, people were buying the red reflectors to achieve the "Euro" look (we called them "Euro-Reflectors").

Thanks. Now I understand what you guys were going on about Euro Reflectors.

Confucius once say: There is an @ss for every seat. I think he also said there is an idiot for every product. Make it; advertise it; people will buy.

good explaination. Originally, the US-DOT did not approve the red reflectors (WTF), so the black inserts and then the painted body color inserts where installed. Us older vintage owners had to order the red inserts and pop them in as the bumper did not look complete with them. At least the body color was an improvement, but the black inserts looked like they forgot to install something on the assembly line.
